A pair of African carved hardwood figures, of a man and woman kneeling on a plinth, sold for £1,500 in the July sale at the Grantham auction rooms.
Tribal art is particular rare because it was usually picked up by the Victorians during their Grand Tour so tended to stay in the same family, being passed down through the generations.
These particular pieces received a lot of interest on the internet before the auction which took place on July 3 and 4. More than 1500 lots featured across the two days and the saleroom was well attended.
