The Bourne Auction Rooms is packed to the gunnels with goodies to suit every taste and pocket at the Collective sale of the 13th and 14th September. As well as the usual array of antiques and collectables the September offering also includes extensive mobile DJ equipment and lighting, entries for the BBC series Antiques Road Trip and the quarterly offering of automobilia. Cars include a cream Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and an MGF Mk1 convertible. Also on offer is a range of vintage and replica bicycles including penny farthings, bone shakers and a Copenhagen Perdersen bicycle.
There is much silver in the sale including tea sets, salvers, Georgian cutlery, inkwells and condiment sets. Jewellery abounds together with gold and silver pocket watches including a gentleman’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual steel cased wristwatch, an 18ct gold lady’s half hunting cased pocket watch set with blue enamel and diamonds and three heavy American gentleman’s gold graduation rings.
There are some items of local interest including a provisions book from William Holmes of The Teapot, High Street Stamford to Sir John Trollope Bt of Casewick Hall, an 1890 Racing Club programme named to Lord Kesteven, and a piece of Thorn Tree reputed to have been planted by Mary Queen of Scots whilst incarcerated at Lochleven, and later executed at Fotheringhay Castle near Oundle. Other collectable items include a narwhal tusk walking stick, a pair of WWII Kriegsmarine U-boat binoculars and a good sized amethyst geode.
Over a hundred lots of furniture are on offer with a good range of antique and contemporary pieces. The most significant offering is a rare late 17th century yew wood drop leaf double gateleg table with a circular top raised on turned legs. There is also a good George III oak and elm dresser and a great retro 1950’s walnut and birds eye maple bedroom suite by Durable Suites.
As well as almost eight hundred lots in the Collective sale Bourne will be hosting its quarterly offering of toys. Amongst the items on offer are a good selection of Hornby dublo gauge railway engines, Triang Minic ships and harbours, Sindy and Barbie dolls, Dinky toys and Steiff animals. For those who prefer a game of cat and mouse why not look out for a rare Lehmann Nina tin plate example.
The Collective Sale will be at The Bourne Auction Rooms on Wednesday 13th September. Viewing is on Tuesday 12th September from 10am until 4pm, and on saleday from 8.30am.
