Paul Johnson, whose background is in auctioneering & estate agency, was a popular estate agent in Stamford and the surrounding villages. He sold his business earlier this year and has joined Lincolnshire Auctioneers & Valuers Golding Young & Mawer to develop their Stamford office.
Paul commented on his appointment: "I've been in Stamford for over 41 years, I've built up a lot of business connections, such as solicitors, surveyors, architects, accountants, and other professionals.
When I decided to sell the estate agency business and retire, I was looking for something to do that used my skills, albeit on a smaller scale. I contacted Colin and suggested that it would make sense to use my wide range of contacts to continue the development of the Stamford valuation and consignment office."
Paul's auctioneering skills were developed during his time at Lyall & Co. At that time he was a rostrum regular selling antiques and all sundry of items at The Bourne Auction Rooms.
"Auctioneering is something I've always been passionate about, I always enjoyed the day to day variety and I'm looking forward to that aspect of working for Colin and perhaps having that rare Antiques Roadshow moment; when something comes in that makes you wonder if it really is something rather special."
Paul's own interest in antiques lies with Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian furniture and he has often been a visitor to Golding Young & Mawers' salerooms. Because of the personal interest he has, Paul is looking forward to transferring his business, auctioneering, and property valuation skills across to the Stamford Valuation Office.
Colin Young commented on Paul's appointment: "I met Paul when I joined Lyalls back in 1986. He was one of the team of five auctioneers that helped me develop my own professional skills. I can't think of a better person to help develop the Stamford office."
