The Collective Sale at The Grantham Auction Rooms on Wednesday 3rd May includes three local pub signs; illustrations of social history and quirky objects which bring a smile and decorate any interior.
They have been entered for sale by a private vendor – all from Grantham pubs, all no longer open. The social changes of the last fifty years are vast. Gone are the days where Grantham boasted the most number of pubs per head anywhere in the country and as these places disappear forever, the objects from them need to be preserved and displayed.
On offer are signs for The Isaac Newton, The Huntingtower Arms and The Malt Shovel, all establishments synonymous with the area but long gone; vacated and replaced by a fried chicken outlet and a convenience store to name but two.
We are dealing with local, attractive, usable objects which can be hung, or displayed. Historically and aesthetically important, they need to be rescued!
The sale is at The Grantham Auction Rooms on Wednesday 3rd May, with viewing on Tuesday 2nd May 10am – 4pm and the morning of the sale 8:30am – 10am, when the sale starts.
