You lucky patrons have two bites at Grantham auctions in November, with offerings coming thick and fast on Wednesday 1st November and also Wednesday 29th November.
Both sales are packed already and although items are numerous we are still taking in for the latter event.
The first offering includes a Rolex watch as good as you will see, especially for originality. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner, dating from the 1970s, with box, various receipts and incredibly good condition will obviously create massive interest. Oozing class with its unobtrusive colour scheme of stainless steel, off white points and black back plate, it would grace any wrist.
The good quality jewellery and silver doesn’t stop there, with a platinum ladies cocktail watch, a good range of Victorian and Edwardian pieces from a lover’s or mourning brooch with amethyst coloured outline to a good selection of Pinchbeck and unmarked gold from the era.
Silver includes a Grantham Mayoral presentation bowl to set pulses racing, an Edwardian coin set with £5, double sovereign, sovereign and so on to cause excitement and a Sir Isaac Newton plaque in association with the King’s School Grantham not only creates local interest, but is also a rare collectable.
The usual mix of Georgian furniture is here, including a good bureau bookcase, a number of chests of drawers and good, small objects, beautifully complimenting the Victorian offering with several dining tables extending to, well, any suitable size and a number of occasional pieces of excellent condition and quality.
Pottery is made up of the old and new, a fabulous Sunderland lustre punch bowl of museum quality rubs shoulders with an extensive quantity of Crown Derby paperweights, an 18th century possibly Welsh Creamware plate and the usual runs of Coalport, Doulton et al. If dinner services are your thing, Royal Worcester makes an appearance with a comprehensive offering of Harvest Pattern, alongside several other high standard lots. There are early Meissen figures, a goat based on the great German designs, an 18th century figure by Derby of Neptune, stag groups and so on. The offering in the ceramics is of the highest order.
Collectables from a Georgian Aberdeenshire deeds box to stamps, a world class medal lot and a collection of postcards as good as any seen here recently, collections of trade and cigarette cards and bygone electrical and retro sound systems will appeal to many, whereas the more traditional collectors will like the selection of mainly 19th century portrait miniatures in several lots.
Once again quality and number are in high supply and time is ticking …..
Talking of which the 29th already has a cased 9 carat gold Omega and a gentleman’s Zenith on offer alongside an already fabulous collection of small silver, collectable items, snuff boxes and so on. Who needs the bearded man in red to sort Christmas when Golding Young & Mawer can do it for you?
Viewing for the sale on November 1st will be Tuesday, October 31st 10am – 4 pm and from 8.30am – 10am on sale day. The sale starts at 10am on 1st November.
