Lot 30
A copy of the Beatles album Please Please Me
Sold: £1,000
When the Compact Disc emerged in the late 1980s, music fans were offered an amazing quality of sound with a practical format.
Fast forward 30 years and the CD is now all but dead with collectors of music only looking for Vinyl records, the most desired of which continue to astound.
At Golding Young & Mawer we regularly sell vinyl records in the Collective Sales that command mesmerising amounts for items that really were not considered to be valuable even 20 years ago... Remember the ‘Only Fools and Horses’ theme tune? David Bowie LP's are now at the top of most collectors wish lists, along with The Beatles and early Sex Pistols pressings.
In a time where music is almost available at the touch of a button, people still long for the time and the excitement when a record was a treasured possession and something to cherish.
Whilst the obvious rare records command strong prices, what many people don’t realise is that it’s the obscure and different that command the best prices.
Whether it is a box that has been hiding away in the attic for years, or a well preserved collection, they are certainly worth giving a spin!
